Marie Claire "A revolutionary new ice-lolly..."

A revolutionary new ice-lolly has been unveiled which helps pregnant women who suffer from morning sickness. The all-natural Lillipop could signal the end of expecting mums starting the day with terrible nausea, dehydration and loss of appetite. Denise Soden, 38, had the idea for the fruity treat after suffering a severe version of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum during her first pregnancy in 1997. Married Denise, who is mum to Lilly, two, Oliver, four, and Ben, 11, admitted it was her own problem pregnancy that sparked the idea for the lollies. She said: ‘I suffered a lot when I was expecting Ben, it was a real nightmare time. It was so bad I waited seven years before I had my next child. ‘The hyperemesis gravidarum saw me being sick about 2,500 times, I lost three stone in weight I was a complete mess. It was halfway through that pregnancy I discovered that for some reason ice helped. ‘When I fell pregnant with Lilly in February 2006 I remembered the ice trick and so tried mixing up a few simple lollies which worked. The ice pops come in varieties including ginger - a well-known cure for nausea - lemon and mint, grapefruit and tangerine and lime and vanilla. And the recipes are totally free from artificial colourings and flavourings. Product testing shows they ease nausea and heartburn, alleviate dry mouth and help provide energy for mums. The Lillipops cost £6.25 for a box of 20 and are being sold through Denise's website, www.lillipops.com. Around eight out ten British expectant mothers suffer from morning sickness and effects women differently from case to case. This illness sees mothers vomiting many times a day, unable to eat and drink without being sick and can lead to nutrition issues for the mother and growing baby, severe weight loss and dehydration.
